"Thank you for letting us into your lives
and sharing your story with the entire country.
We have been getting so many calls and comments
on how touched people have been by hearing your
story."
-Francine Weinberg, producer, Pax TV segment
It's a Miracle, September, 2000
"Gaea Shaw never met Christopher Kuhlman.
But she feels that he's very much a part of her.
. . . His heart was transplanted into Shaw, a
sufferer of genetic heart disease. Barely two
months later, Shaw took up competitive swimming
and went on to win three medals at the U.S. Transplant
Games. Oddly, Kuhlman's passions in life had been
skiing and swimming. In a tearful gathering on
Valentine's Day, Kuhlman's family met Shaw and
her family. Now the Kuhlmans proudly display one
of Shaw's medal in their home, a gift from a woman
who says she's not sure she can ever adequately
express her thanks."
-Denver Rocky Mountain News/Daily Camera, April

"Swimming became her passion after she
received Christopher's heart. Only later did she
discover that it had been his passion as well."
-Jane Stubbins, Summit Daily News, March 14,
1999
"Gaea Shaw's heart was weakening every day,
and without a transplant, she wouldn't survive
to see her daughter grow up. Then a caring family
gave her the gift of life. Now she wondered, what
could she do in return?"
-Peg Verone, Woman's World, July 4, 2000
"Her new heart racing, Gaea Shaw was poised
to meet the family who had given her a second
chance at life. For Joni and George Kuhlman, the
moment was bittersweet-coming face to-face with
the woman who now has their son Christopher's
heart. Gaea Shaw and Joni Kuhlman smiled at one
another, then embraced and cried. Kuhlman placed
her hand over Shaw's heart-the heart that once
had beaten for her own son. 'Wow,' she said, choking
back tears. 'It's beating really hard.' 'You're
so beautiful,' answered Shaw, tears rolling down
her face, too. 'It's a wonderful heart. I knew
it right away.'"
-Carlos Illescas, The Denver Post, February
15, 1999
